Ginetta Junior Championship dominator Seb Morris proved untouchable once more at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire over the weekend, 4th/5th June, by racking up his sixth and seventh wins of the season in scintillating fashion.
Increasing further his already jaw-dropping lead in the driver standings, the 15-year-old Hillspeed racer scored a near-perfect 73 points over the course of his ‘home’ event – in addition to the double win he also scorched to pole position for both races and set a new lap record in the first encounter.
“Oulton is by far my favourite circuit, it’s the track where I feel most comfortable and I’m able to do quick laps every lap – not just the odd one”, said Seb, “The team has worked so hard this weekend as they do every weekend, I can’t thank them enough for all of the effort they put in.”
So far, the season has been nothing short of a fairytale for the Marford-based youngster with the only blemish on his record – if it can be called that – a second place finish at Thruxton during the fifth round of the campaign.
In qualifying on Saturday, Seb was in absolutely remarkable form and secured the top spot on the grid for round seven by a phenomenal 0.7 seconds. His second fastest lap, determining the grid order for round eight, was an even more impressive 0.8 seconds clear of his closest rival.
At the beginning of the first of the weekend’s races, which took place under glorious Cheshire skies, the Liberty Properties Plc and Legat Owen-backed driver led away from pole and from lap three he started to build a substantial advantage.

Posting the fastest lap of the race, and new lap record, of 1m42.555 seconds (78.13mph), Seb was the only driver to go below the 1m43 second barrier and his best time was a full 0.8 seconds better than anyone else could manage. Unsurprisingly, his winning margin at the chequered flag was immense – 8.8 seconds to be exact.
The weather took a turn for the worse on Sunday so ahead of round eight, the teams and drivers all had a tough choice to make regarding which tyres to use. Seb and Hillspeed opted to go with a set of ‘intermediate’ part worn treaded tyres and the decision worked out.
Holding his lead into the first corner, Seb stamped his authority on the race immediately and by the end of lap one his lead was an incredible 3.7 seconds as he quickly found the grip level. While the chasing pack battled over position, Seb disappeared into the distance and he eventually took the flag a country mile clear, his winning margin some 23 seconds at the end of just eight laps.
“We worked hard before the race to decide which tyre to go on but, had we been able to see the whole track, we’d have definitely gone with slicks”, said The King’s School, Chester pupil, “Instead, we went with low-intermediates rather than full wets but that still worked out well. It’s been a really fantastic weekend again.”
There are now just two weeks to wait until rounds nine and 10 of the Ginetta Junior Championship take place on 18th/19th June at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.
